Welcome to Dovehaven Nursing Home, a 40 bedded home caring for older people who require nursing care. We provide an excellent level of care in a friendly atmosphere and can offer both long term residential care and short term respite care.

All our residents have their care needs assessed prior to admission in order to develop a regularly reviewed care plan. We treat all of our residents as individuals and cater for their needs accordingly whilst preserving their privacy and dignity.

Located in the traditional Victorian town of Southport, Dovehaven Nursing Home is in a quiet and relaxing location, outside of the town centre close to the marina. Southport is a large retirement town and is ideally suited for older people requiring nursing care.

Visitors are also welcome to join the residents for a meal in the dining room or the resident’s own room if they wish.

Our specially adapted minibus is used for regular resident outings and can also be used for pickups, hospital visits and to assist with the initial move to Dovehaven.

PHILOSOPHY OF CARE

Dovehaven Nursing Home is an example of a more progressive, open minded approach to residential care. Our residents are respected as individuals and we do our best to cater for their every need. We recognise that the necessity of moving into a nursing home and requiring help with personal tasks can feel like a loss of independence. We therefore do our best to ensure that this transition takes place with as little stress as possible.

We value our fully trained and friendly staff as our greatest asset, which is why we have excellent staff retention levels ensuring continuity of care for our residents, which enable specials relationships to be formed between carers and residents. We provide 24 hour nurse coverage with additional trained nurse cover during the day. Dovehaven Nursing Home has also developed good support relationships with GPs and social workers in the local area.

STAFF

Dovehaven Nursing Home is owned and run by Mark and Wendi Gilbert along with their son Luke Gilbert. Each member of the family have extensive experience within the care home field and are hands on being involved and visiting the home on a daily basis.

The manager of the nursing home is Sarah Brookfield who is a registered nurse with over 20 years of experience, 10 years of which have been in the nursing home environment. She holds an NVQ level 5 in Operational Management along with a Palliative Care Qualification. Along with the administrative she team has overall responsibility for the co-ordination of the various teams who work within the nursing home.

The nursing team at the home includes experienced registered nurses, who have a wealth of experience as well as several additional qualifications appertaining to the care of the elderly. Our care staff team have either already achieved their NVQ in care or are working towards it, supported by the nursing staff and manager.

Another very important team of people are the catering staff. We have two cooks working alongside a support staff in the catering department. The cook is responsible for providing high standards of food and beverages for residents and maintains the highest levels of food hygiene. We have regular reviews of all menus and welcome comments and suggestions from residents and their families on any aspect of the catering service.

There are also domestic and maintenance staff working throughout the home, responsible for cleaning, laundry and maintenance services.
