If you are looking for care for yourself, a friend or for a loved one, selecting the right type of care is important and the process can often be daunting. At Dovehaven, we understand that you will have questions and we are more than happy to answer any queries that you may have. Please call us on 01704 546177 and we’ll do our best to help you. Care homes fall into two main categories, those that provide personal care and those that provide nursing care.

Within each of these categories, we operate homes that also specialise in care of elderly clients who suffer from dementia or other related mental disorders.

RESIDENTIAL

In our residential establishments we provide beautiful accommodation, home cooked meals, and laundry services as well as having staff on board who are available 24 hours a day to support and assist clients. They assist with all aspects of personal care, including any assistance our clients may need with washing and dressing. Our staff within these homes are experienced and many have acquired NVQs in health and social care.

NURSING

At Dovehaven, we provide all aspects that residential care homes provide but with the additional input of qualified registered nurses being on duty at all times.

There are four main types of care homes for older people, these are; short term respite, dementia care, care homes with nursing and specialist care.

A care assessment will help you to understand which type of care home will offer the level of care that you require.

SHORT TERM RESPITE

A portion of our care homes cater for clients who are generally older people requiring a basic standard of care without nursing and these are generally known as a rest home. These types of homes all provide beautiful accommodation, lovely home cooked meals as well as personal care such as help with washing and eating, should the resident require this.

DEMENTIA CARE

Some of our care homes are set up specifically to provide care to older clients with mental health problems like dementia or Alzheimer’s and who require a basic standard of care. These homes are generally known as EMI rest homes. As always, our homes all provide beautiful accommodation, lovely home cooked meals as well as personal care such as help with washing and eating, should the resident require this.

CARE HOME WITH NURSING

Our care homes with nursing are usually for older people requiring nursing care and are generally known as nursing homes. These homes will all have registered nurses to care for residents’ health needs and staff on hand 24 hours a day for any support or care needs our residents may have.

Our specialist care homes are for older people with mental health problems like dementia or Alzheimer’s who require nursing care. These homes will have registered nurses giving 24 hour support and care for the residents. These homes are generally known as EMI nursing homes.

WHAT IS A CARE ASSESSMENT?

A care assessment is an essential part in the process of finding the right level of care or the right type of care home. Everyone, whether publicly or privately funded, is entitled to a care assessment which will be provided by your local social services. A care assessment is nothing to be worried about, it will just involve talking to someone about the needs of the home required and how you wish to live.

HOW DO I FIND A GOOD HOME?

The best way to make sure that the care home you are looking at is suitable for you is to ask questions! Make sure you get all the information you need, then go and visit the home so you can meet the staff and other residents and see what the atmosphere is like.

All homes will have a Statement of Purpose which explains the services offered by the home and a Service User Guide which is designed for potential residents.

Additionally all homes are inspected by the CQC (Care Quality Commission). CQC publishes reports on their website giving their inspection results following compliance visits made to each home.
